Artist Jim Gensheer

When it comes to painting, Jim Gensheer considers himself to be an abstract realist. “Given that I try to let the viewer enter my paintings with their own feelings,” he says, “believing that what I’ve left out of the painting is as important as what I’ve put in it.” Jim believes the viewer will ‘fill in the blanks’ on their own, becoming a part of the painting. “Painting represents a way for me to pause time and re-live a moment,” Jim continues. “Time no longer exists, and if I can get the viewer to pause and think- I’ve been there, I’ve felt that… then I have done what I should have as an artist.”
